Full blood Coronation Sussex Chicken from
The Sebastopol Goose Barn.
Here are the new additions at The Sebastopol Goose Barn, Coronation Sussex Chickens.    My Coronation Sussex chicks are from the original imported pairs from Greenfire Farms.    One of the roosters of these chicks was an imported champion from Australia, one beautiful roo and I am lucky to have his bloodline.
Coronation Sussex were first imported into the United States the summer of 2007, out of champion stock.   Sussex are a dual purpose breed, being prolific egg layers, laying up to 250 eggs per year.   They are also a large breed of chickens, making them suitable for meat, although I find them much too valuable for that.    Of course everyday when I look at my chicks, I swear they have grown from the day before.
Coronation Sussex are very rare here in the United States, and have become one of my favorite breeds of chickens.

Today is January 5th, 2012 and the Coronation Sussex are laying steadily.   A promise was made to me,  that they would lay through the winter and that is exactly what they are doing.   As far as eating quality, we have found these eggs to be perfect.   Always consistent in size and Grade A quality, always.   We do not let the Coronation Sussex hens sit on eggs to hatch them.   The Black Copper Marans are the bets setting hen we have found, anywhere.   They sit better than a Silkie chicken, and be larger in size, they can easily cover 15 chicken eggs or 6 goose eggs.   We feel very confident that we have the best of both worlds, 2 gorgeous breeds of chickens , Coronation Sussex-for great eggs and Black Copper Marans for dark eggs and superb
setting ability.
