This page contains links to local scholarships that are available this year.  Look these over with your parents and return the completed applications to me by Wednesday, March 3, 2010.  Note that several forms are due before the February 11th date.

I strongly recommend that you fill out all the applications that are available to you, as there are many opportunities available.  If you have any questions, please feel free to ask me.

Southwest Iowa Educational Foundation

Scholarship Application

Deadline: March 31, 2010 

Seven $1000.00 scholarships will be awarded to graduating senior students of Southwest Iowa.  Applicants must be in the top 25% of their graduating class and have an ACT score of at least 25.

 

Smith Family Scholarship

Deadline: March 31, 2010 

There will be a $500 scholarship awarded to a boy, and a $500 scholarship awarded to a girl that is a graduating senior of Woodbine High School.  Student must be in good standing in the school and community both scholastically and in citizenship.  Scholarship awarded to those entering into the field of Education, Medicine, or Agriculture but not strictly in that order.  Scholarship money will be paid to their school of choice at the end of their first semester of attendance. 

Scott Mecham Student of Integrity Award

Three $2,000 scholarships are available to high school juniors or seniors who reside in Nebraska, South Dakota, or Southwest Iowa.  This program was created in honor of Scott Mecham who served as BBB president from 1991-2006.

There will be a scholarship available for a student going into a 2 or 4 year Agriculture School.  There should be a financial need for funds by the student.

Students enrolling in an Iowa college or university to major in community enhancement or environmental areas of study only are eligible.  The award is offered to up to 4, $500 scholarships to Iowa high school seniors in 2010.  Winners will be notified by March 10, 2010

Iowa Credit Union Foundation

The Iowa Credit Union Foundation is a non-profit whose mission is:  To help Iowans build wealth, responsibility and independence.  Two different scholarships are available:  1.)High school students planning to enter college, and 2. Nontraditional-aged and continuing education students.  The high school scholarship competition will award a total of $3750. The first-place prize is $1500; second place is $1000, third place is $750 and fourth is $500.  The nontraditional category will award two $1000 scholarships.

For Iowa high school graduating seniors that plan to enroll in a mechanical or trade course of study at an accredited Iowa Community College.  The scholarships may be used for bona fide school related expenses such as tuition, fees, books, and tools.  The final determination of the number of scholarships is dependent on the investment income earned, with each scholarship being $1,000.

This scholarship is open to any student who lives in or attends a high school in Harrison County.  Qualifications:  Graduate from H.S., Apply for scholarship based on need or academic excellence, plan to further education at a 2 or 4 year college or university, or an approved technical school.

This scholarship will paid 1/2 after verifying attendance first semester, and 1/2 after verifying attendance at the start of 2nd semester. 

The scholarships are for one year, but college students may reapply each year.

Harrison County REC Scholarship

Applicants must be enrolled or planning to enroll in a full-time graduate or undergraduate course of study at an accredited, two-year or four-year college, university, or vocational/technical school.  The scholarship must be used for educational costs, and the student must enter college in the fall of the school year for which the scholarship is given.  Students are eligible to receive an award only once from their local cooperative.

The Internet Scholarship Program is exclusively for high school seniors graduating in the 2009-2010 school year. Winners will be selected at random.

Best Buy Scholarship Scholarship Application Deadline:  February 15, 2010

$1500

This year 1,500 students were selected to receive awards of $1,500 each. An additional 51 students received awards of $10,000 each. At Best Buy, we believe what students learn inside and outside of the classroom are equally important, which is why the Best Buy Scholarship Program rewards students for their volunteer efforts and work experience in addition to academic achievements.

A vocational/technical education scholarship is available for tuition at a school of the student’s choice.  Four-year college programs will not be considered.

Awards must be used for educational expenses, such as tuition or required fees and books, and must be used during the first year of college or post-secondary vocational/technical school.

These scholarships are established to create an ongoing network of educational awareness for Iowa educators, the PEI foundation awards students and teacher academic scholarships by financially supporting worthwhile educational endeavors.

Iowa West Foundation Scholarship Scholarship Application Deadline: April 1, 2010

Click on the "Apply Online" link and you will take an eligibility quiz and download application packet.  Students should go to the "What We Fund" area of the website.

Iowa Consumers Credit Union League Scholarship Application Deadline: February 5, 2010

The Family Involvement Board (FIB) scholarship program, through the Iowa Credit Union Foundation, provides six scholarships to young adults and nontraditional students to further their education. Essay questions are designed to encourage learning about the credit union movement and its mission. Applications are due each February, and scholarship winners are notified in late April.

All Iowa Opportunity Foster Care Grant Program Scholarship Application Deadline: March 15, 2010

Scholarships are usually awarded without regard to financial need. Each scholarship has its own application process and selection criteria. Recipients may be selected based on specific career interests, community service, heritage, special talents, or performance in academics, music, and/or athletics. Some scholarships are one-time awards, while others are renewable for multiple years.
 

Education & Training Voucher (ETV) Grant Scholarship Application Deadline: May 1, 2009

The ETV Grant helps pay tuition and other school-related expenses for students who have aged out of Iowa's foster care system or students who were adopted after their 16th birthday.

Terry E. Brandstad Iowa State Fair Scholarship Scholarship Application Deadline: May 1, 2009

To be eligible, you must actively participate at the State Fair (past or present), be a graduating senior in Iowa, and plan on attending an Iowa college or university.

Robert D. Blue Scholarship Scholarship Application Deadline:  May 10, 2010

The Robert D. Blue Scholarship awards students who demonstrate literary and scholastic ability; exhibit qualities of truth, courage, and fellowship; and display moral force of character. This scholarship's funding comes from the Iowa Centennial Memorial Foundation's interest earnings; thus, the number and amounts of scholarships awarded vary from year to year. These amounts awarded have varied from $500 to $1000.

 

Iowa Farm Bureau Federation Scholarship Scholarship Application Deadline: March 1, 2010

Pearl Hull Falk Scholarship Scholarship Application Deadline:  May 1, 2010

Each recipient must be of the Protestant faith, a resident of the state of Iowa, and a full-time student at the University of Iowa. 

 

AK-SAR-BEN Scholarship Application Deadline:  March 15 ,2010

Up to 12 $1,000 scholarships are available each year.

KFC Scholars Scholarship Application Deadline:  December 1, 2010

The KFC Colonel's Scholars Program® is looking for high school seniors with entrepreneurial drive, strong perseverance, demonstrated financial need, and who want to pursue a college education at an accredited public institution in the state they reside.

Harrison County Soil and Water Conservation District Scholarship Application Deadline:  March 3, 2010

The scholarships will be presented to Iowa high school seniors to be used for their first year of education on the college level while pursuing programs of study in any field of agriculture or natural resources.

Iowa Soybean Association Scholarship Application Deadline:  March 15, 2010

Scholarship is open to high school seniors who are Iowa residents and plan on attending any ag-related college or university.  The scholarships are in the amount of $1,500. Please see Mr. Kuhl for the documents that you need to fill out, as they are not online. 

Grand Lodge of Iowa Masonic Scholarship Scholarship Application Deadline: Postmarked February 1, 2010

The principal criterion is service to school and community with special emphasis upon leadership roles in these areas. The Grand Lodge of Iowa is looking for those students who exhibit the greatest potential to be not only of service to their communities in the future but also leaders in these communities. An applicant's academic record, communication skills, and need for financial assistance are also carefully considered as is an evaluation of the applicant by a school official.

2010 Youth Scholarship Program Scholarship Application Deadline:  March 15, 2010

Must have been diagnosed with Cancer before the age of 21, under the age of 25 at time of application, legal resident, accepted to a two or four-year accredited university/college, complete the application process, and provide estimated family income.

Iowa Automobile Dealers Foundation Scholarship Application Deadline:  March 15, 2010

Applicants must be committed to pursuing automotive-related studies at a two or four-year post-secondary institution, and must demonstrate satisfactory performance in those studies. 

AXA Achievement Community Scholarship Scholarship Application Deadline:  Fall, 2010

Some of the remarkable accomplishments of our AXA Achievers include: setting up a food bank in their community; designing a curriculum to get kids interested in science; founding a nonprofit organization for young people that encourages community service and civic involvement.

Association of Information Technology Professionals Scholarship Application Deadline:  April 4, 2010

This is a $10,000 scholarship to help further education of students who plan to attend college in Omaha, Eastern Nebraska and Western Iowa region. Any college students whose career plans will take them into the Information Technology related fields of this AITP scholarship opportunity.   The scholarship will be awarded at the monthly meeting on May 20, 2010. 

2010 Dale Schroeder Memorial Scholarship Program Scholarship Application Deadline: January 1-April 5, 2010

This is for legal residents of the State of Iowa that reside in a community with a population between 1 and 10,000.  This scholarship is dedicated to provide financial assistance for student(s) pursuing a bachelor's degree at one of the following universities:  Iowa State University, Iowa State University, or the University of Iowa.

James B. Morris Scholarship Fund, Inc. Scholarship Application Deadline:  March 15, 2010

43 scholarship awards totaling $88,000 were awarded in 2008-2009.

The scholarship was established in 1977 to provide assistance, motivation, and counseling for minority students desiring to pursue secondary and post-secondary education.  Also, Community college students enrolled in a degree program are eligible to apply.

This scholarship is being awarded to Lutheran gentlemen entering Iowa State University in the fall of 2010.  Applicants will be evaluated on their scholastic achievement and active participation in their communities and churches. 

Burkhart Scholarship Scholarship Application Deadline:  June 18, 2010

Each recipient receives $1,000 over a 4 year period.

The purpose of this scholarship is to assist students in furthering their education.  Winners are selected on the basis if interest and activity in golf and the potential for future contributions to the game, then on academic ability and financial ability.

James L. Hickey Scholarship Scholarship Application Deadline:  March 31, 2010

This scholarship will be awarded to a child of an active member of the Woodbine Fire Department or Rescue Squad, or a “Junior Reserve Firefighter” pursuing post-secondary education at non-profit organizations, including Bible colleges, accredited colleges or universities, or accredited technical institutions.

Woodbine PTO Scholarship Scholarship Application Deadline:  March 6, 2010

The Woodbine PTO is an organization made up of parents, teachers, and anyone interested in supporting the school in its goal of educating young people.  One way the PTO is choosing to help students is by awarding one $500 scholarship to a deserving Woodbine High School Senior who is planning on attending college.

 

John Culver Scholarship Scholarship Application Deadline:  April 6, 2009 @ 5:00 PM

The scholarship shall be awarded to a resident of Iowa who attends or plans to attend any public or private, two or four year institution of higher learning in the state of Iowa during the following academic year.

Preference shall be shown to individuals who have demonstrated an interest in politics and government, and who demonstrate financial need and academic excellence or the potential for academic excellence.
